Any information collected about you will be treated as confidential and will only be used as follows:

  • For the purposes of selling, buying or letting your property, as a tenant to carry out referencing on your new property.  As a buyer to register for properties and to view these, including the Money Laundering check, Right to Rent checks, obtaining mortgages, further advances, life or building insurances and legal and regulation compliance, and informing all utilities of change of occupiers.  It will not be revealed by us to any external body or person unless it is with your consent or the law, public duty or our legitimate interests require us to do so.
  • For preventing and detecting fraud and money laundering.  We are required by law to check the identity of our new customers.  This makes it more difficult for criminals to use the financial system and to use false names and addresses, or the identities of innocent people.  Checking identity is an important way of fighting money laundering and other criminal activities.  If false or inaccurate information is provided, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies.

You will be asked to sign a form saying that you give permission for your personal details to be given in the above circumstances only.  We will not sell your personal information.  You have the right of access to personal information held at Medway Mortgage Shop.  You have a right to complain to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) if you think there is a problem with the way we handle your data.

We keep our paper files for 7 years for sales and lettings. Our computer files are kept for a minimum of 5 years, and our mortgage client data is kept indefinitely.
